Job summary

Mercy Health seeks a Clinical Nursing Student to provide direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at West Hospital. The role offers clinical exposure and hands-on experience designed to align with nursing program requirements.

The student will perform essential care activities, document patient information, and participate in hand-offs while developing critical thinking and professional skills in a supportive, faith-based health system.

Qualifications

• HS/GED is required.
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program with at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.

Responsibilities

• Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery.
• Seeks educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking.
• Provides basic patient care including care, comfort, vitals, hygiene, and mobility.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
• Provides high level customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff.
• Documents patient care accurately and promptly.
• Participates in hand-offs and reporting of patient needs.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency is validated.
• Participates in data collection and documentation of vital signs and patient condition.
• Assists with activities of daily living and patient mobility, feeding, hydration, and elimination.
• Utilizes clinical technology as applicable.
• Escalates concerns through the chain of command.
