Job summary

Mount Sinai Morningside seeks a skilled clinical laboratory technologist to perform and report complex diagnostic tests on clinical specimens in a fast-paced hospital setting.

You will maintain QA, operate advanced instrumentation, document results in the LIS, and collaborate with supervisors and pathologists to ensure accuracy and timely patient care.

A Bachelor's in Medical Technology and NYS licensure are required, with 0–1 year of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related Science field required
• NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License required
• 0-1 year of experience

Responsibilities

• Performs and reports assigned analytical tests, including high complexity tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures.
• Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal/unusual results. Documents unacceptable specimens according to appropriate policy. Communicates specimen requirements to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains QA policies and procedures to ensure validity of results. Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols. Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before patient results are released.
• Maintains a safe and efficient working environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, and monitoring temperatures in accordance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies. Recognizes and troubleshoots malfunctions of advanced technological equipment and initiates corrective action.
• Enters test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized report to be generated for physicians review and interpretation.
• Maintains all records as per the regulatory requirements: card files, patient requisitions, LIS Documentation, statistical data.
• Consults with the Supervisor or the Pathologist, if needed, on all important results, conflicting or out of range (recognized patterns specified in policy) results. Notes inadequate volume and/or abnormal appearance of sample.
• Reviews all Critical Test results by repeat analysis if necessary, and communicates the same to Nursing Staff/ Physician every time. Supervisor/Pathologist is always notified in extreme cases. Enters the details of the Critical Value communication in LIS.
• Assists in Inventory Control to assure adequate supplies (QC, reagents, calibrators and other consumables are available and reagents are stored properly (temperature sensitive). Supplies are dated appropriately when placed in use.
• Participates in other projects/duties as assigned by the Supervisor/ Lab Management.
