Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform routine and advanced diagnostic procedures for microbial pathogen identification in clinical specimens. You will maintain in-depth knowledge of testing procedures, instrumentation, and QA, while contributing to special projects and product evaluations.

The role requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field and a NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License, with 0–1 year of related experience.

Qualifications

• NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License required.

Responsibilities

• Performs and reports assigned analytical tests, including high-complexity tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
• Determines acceptability of specimens by visual inspection or recognizing abnormal results; documents unacceptable specimens.
• Maintains QA policies and procedures to ensure validity of results and performs quality control.
• Maintains a safe and efficient working environment by performing equipment checks and monitoring temperatures.
• Enters test results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for standardized physician reports.
• Maintains all records per regulatory requirements and communicates critical values when necessary.
• Consults with Supervisor or Pathologist on important results and notes any inadequate sample conditions.
• Reviews all critical test results by repeat analysis when needed and notifies nursing staff/physician.
• Assists inventory control to ensure supplies and reagents are available and properly stored.
• Participates in other projects/duties as assigned by Supervisor/Lab Management.
