Job summary

The Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Technician (Laboratory Support) to perform clinical laboratory tests and support patient care in American Indian communities. You will collect specimens, process tests across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, serology and blood banking, and help ensure quality results.

You will document results, assist with quality assurance, and maintain instruments and supplies in a compliant laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of general experience or equivalent
• Six (6) months of specialized experience in medical laboratory support or closely related field
• Completion of an associate degree program including one year in certified laboratory assistant program
• One year of study with chemistry/biological sciences plus training in laboratory practice

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking
• Evaluate test results and troubleshoot to ensure accuracy
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
• Collect and process patient specimens and prepare them for testing
• Validate and document laboratory results and communicate with healthcare providers
