Job summary

UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in Seattle, WA seeks a CLT 1 for the Phlebotomy & Specimen Processing Services team at UW Medical Center - Montlake. You will perform specimen processing, phlebotomy, and patient/customer service to support accurate diagnostics.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, 1 year lab experience, ASCP-approved coursework, and MA-P certification planned within 180 days.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
  • Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the ASCP.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Specimen Processing Activities: receive, sort, and prioritize specimens and requests; match specimens to requisitions; centrifuge and aliquot; process timed urine collections; review entries for reference lab testing; perform related computer tasks.
  • Perform Phlebotomy Activities: collect venipuncture and capillary blood from inpatients and outpatients of all ages.
  • Provide Customer Service: respond promptly and professionally to inquiries from patients, clients, and hospital staff; instruct patients on proper urine collection.
  • Share Knowledge: orient/train new employees; participate in performance improvement activities; support accreditation standards (JCAHO, CLIA, CAP).
  • Utilize Problem-Solving Skills: resolve specimen and order-related problems and document for supervisor review.
