Job summary

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests and procedures. You will apply scientific principles, maintain quality controls, and assist in instrument maintenance while ensuring accurate result reporting.

The role requires building on MLS expertise, following established protocols, and participating in CQI activities to improve laboratory services for patient care.

Qualifications

• Visual acuity adequate to perform duties and communicate effectively.
• Ability to work hours specified, with proper hearing and speech.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation and related disciplines.
• Initiate corrective actions with MLS or supervisor as needed; manage workflow.
• Perform basic to complex clinical laboratory testing per procedures and guidelines.
• Communicate laboratory data to departments and healthcare providers accurately and timely.
• Interpret test results using theory and critical thinking; seek MLS/supervisor input as needed.
• Assess result validity and take corrective action with MLS/supervisor guidance.
• Participate in lab CQI activities as assigned.
• Provide guidance on specimen collection, handling and storage; may collect specimens.
