Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst to analyze clinical Next Generation Sequencing data and contribute to pipeline development within the Department of Pathology at Rhode Island Hospital. The role emphasizes independent work under supervision, with emphasis on data integrity and clinical relevance.

Responsibilities include daily DNA-seq/RNA-seq analysis, validation of new NGS tests, and assisting in pipeline and database/webtool development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
• Demonstrates strong scientific understanding of genomics.
• Demonstrates proficiency in programming and scripting skills (e.g, Perl, Python, or Java).
• Demonstrates knowledge of DNA-seq and RNA-seq data analysis tools (e.g., BWA, GATK, STAR, Samtools).
• Demonstrates knowledge of database and webtool development (e.g., SQL, HTML, CSS, Apache).
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of bioinformatics data analysis tools
• Familiarity with CAP/CLIA lab setting is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the daily clinical bioinformatics workflow, such as DNA-seq and RNA-seq data analysis.
• Analyzes the clinical data for the validation of new Next Generation Sequencing tests.
• Assists with preparation of validation summaries of the new Next Generation Sequencing tests.
• Assists in developing analysis pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing tests.
• Evaluates analytical aspects of emerging analysis methods.
• Assists in the development of databases and webtools.
