Job summary

Block by Block in Houston, TX is seeking a Cleaning Ambassador to keep public spaces clean and friendly. You will greet pedestrians, perform cleaning duties in your assigned zone, and report daily tasks. The role requires outdoor work in all conditions and strict English literacy for basic reporting.

Shift is Wed–Sun, 8:00am–5:00pm, with weekly pay and pay advances. Benefits, PTO, free uniforms, and support programs are included to foster a positive, safety‑mocused work environment.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred but not required; training provided.
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to walk or traverse for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (uniforms provided).
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning tasks in assigned zones with a positive, professional demeanor.
• Engage pedestrians with friendly greetings and provide directions or information.
• Remove litter and graffiti, and straighten outdoor surfaces.
• Pull weeds at tree wells, cracks, and vacant lots.
• Report safety concerns and complete basic daily task reports.

Job Title: Cleaning Ambassador

Pay Range: $17.50to $17.50per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Pay Day!)

Shift/Schedule:

• Wed. - Sun. from 8:00am to 5:00pm

What You'll Be Doing:

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
