Job summary

Block by Block is hiring a Cleaning Ambassador to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces in the assigned zone. The role involves active street-level cleaning, interacting with pedestrians, and reporting on tasks completed.

The position requires outdoor work across a fixed schedule (Wed–Sun, 7:00am–3:30pm). Training is provided; benefits include weekly pay, pay advances, PTO, and free uniforms.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred but not required; training provided.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English for basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform street-level cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting.
• Remove litter and graffiti; maintain clean sidewalks and public spaces.
• Weed removal at tree wells, cracks, and vacant lots.
• Damp-wipe outdoor surfaces and keep areas neat.

Job Title: Cleaning Ambassador

Pay Range: $17.50to $17.50per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Payday!)

Shift/Schedule:

• Wed. - Sun. from 7:00am to 3:30pm

What You'll Be Doing:

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed,which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
