Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Cleaning Ambassador to perform street-level cleaning and public-facing duties in the Durham, NC area. You will engage pedestrians, help with directions, and keep zones clean while maintaining a friendly, professional presence outdoors.

The role requires night and weekend availability, a valid driver's license, and the ability to report tasks and incidents in English. Training is provided, and uniforms are supplied.

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone, maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with friendly greetings to provide directions or information.
• Remove litter and graffiti, pull weeds, and wipe outdoor surfaces as needed.
• Report safety concerns to Safety Ambassadors and complete basic daily task reports.

Pay Range: $25.06to $25.06 per hour

What You'll Be Doing:

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Requirements:

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
