Job summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is seeking Class Size Teacher Assistant positions to address oversized classrooms in Priority Schools. Under school principal supervision, they assist in instruction and related duties as required.

The role involves supervising students, tutoring, setting up instructional materials, and coordinating with teachers to support classroom activities. A CPS paraprofessional license and a high school diploma are required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or G.E.D. equivalent).
• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE, which may be applied for after 60 college hours or after passing a paraprofessional exam.

Responsibilities

• Assists in supervising students during lunchroom and playground activities.
• Provides security functions within the school, such as monitoring corridors and reviewing student identification cards.
• Assists students with classroom assignments.
• Assists teachers with bulletin boards and displaying student work.
• Operates photocopying and duplicating machines for educational materials.
• Maintains orderly classroom arrangements.
• Greets and directs visitors to appropriate areas.
• Consults with teachers on concerns of individual students.
• Operates AV equipment (projectors, cassette recorders, etc.).
• Provides tutoring to students under teacher supervision.
• Collects and grades homework and exam materials.
• Assists with loading/unloading students on buses.
• Assists in processing new books and related insurance.
