Job summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is hiring a Class Size Teacher Assistant to support teachers and students in Southwest Side schools. The role involves supervising students during meals and breaks, assisting with assignments, and helping maintain orderly classrooms.

Under the direction of a licensed teacher, you will use basic office equipment and audiovisual tools, greet visitors, and help with tutoring and grading under supervision. CPS offers health, retirement, and paid time off benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or G.E.D. equivalent).
• ISBE paraprofessional license or eligibility (60 college hours or Parapro/Work Keys).
• Good English grammar and spelling; basic math; familiarity with CPS rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising students during lunchroom and playground activities.
• Provide security functions within the school, such as monitoring corridors and reviewing student identification cards.
• Assist students in understanding and completing classroom assignments.
• Assist teachers with bulletin boards and displaying students' work in classrooms.
• Operate photocopying and duplicating machines to reproduce educational materials.
• Greet and direct visitors to appropriate areas of the school.
• Collect daily absentee reports and contact parents/guardians to verify causes of student absence.
• Assist in loading/unloading students on school buses.
