Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a dedicated Civil QA/QC Inspector to oversee quality assurance and quality control across earthworks, concrete, asphalt, utilities, drainage, and structures on civil construction projects in the Southeast. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with codes, standards, project specifications, and quality plans.

Minimum 3–5 years of civil QA/QC experience, knowledge of ASTM/ACI/AASHTO, and ability to travel to project sites are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in civil construction QA/QC.
• In-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes (ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, etc.).
• Experience reviewing and implementing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control Plans (QCPs).
• Familiarity with construction materials and laboratory/field testing procedures.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to support project sites.

Responsibilities

• Conduct QA/QC inspections for civil construction activities, including earthwork, foundation, concrete placement, utilities, roadways, and structural components.
• Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Prepare and maintain daily inspection reports, test results, NCRs, and corrective action documentation.
• Monitor construction work to ensure compliance with approved ITPs.
• Coordinate with contractors, site engineers, consultants, and quality managers to address quality issues.
• Verify materials and workmanship meet project submittals and standards.
• Attend quality and coordination meetings as needed.
• Ensure inspection and testing records are properly documented and archived.
• Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring quality issues and suggesting practical solutions.
