Job summary

SmithGroup’s Madison office is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to join our design-focused team. You will contribute to site design, calculations and data compilation while collaborating with landscape architects, planners, and surveyors.

The internship fosters hands-on learning with mentorship in a flexible, hybrid work setting. The role emphasizes developing skills in AutoCAD, Civil3D, ArcGIS, and MS Office, with an anticipated 12-week program from May to August.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled sophomore or graduate standing in an accredited civil engineering program by the time of the internship.
• Some experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, ArcGIS and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Work on integrated design teams with landscape architecture, urban planning, and surveying.
• Develop site design drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Perform preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Compile data and prepare design solutions.
• Assist in editing technical specifications.
• Participate in design meetings.
• Receive mentorship from experienced engineers.
• Visit construction site(s) and/or completed project sites.

Working with us, you will:

An ideal candidate has:

• Completed at least their sophomore year or have graduate standing in an accredited civil engineering program by the time of the internship.

SmithGroup promotes a healthy work/life balance for our staff, as well as hybrid work options that give interns the flexibility to work within our vibrant office culture or remotely, as needed. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $24.00 to $25.00per hour, at the time of posting. You are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week.
