Job summary

SmithGroup’s Chicago office is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join our design team. You will work on integrated architecture and engineering project design teams, performing basic modeling in Revit and producing structural documents, while compiling data and preparing design solutions.

You will have the opportunity to edit technical specifications, participate in design meetings, receive mentorship from experienced engineers, and visit project sites.

Qualifications

• Sophomore status or graduate standing in a structural/architectural/civil engineering program with emphasis on structural engineering by internship start.
• Relevant coursework in structural engineering.
• Some experience with Revit and the Microsoft Office Suite.

The Chicago office of SmithGroup is looking for a Structural Engineering Intern to join our team.

Working with us, you will:

• Work on integrated architecture and engineering project design teams.
• Perform basic modeling assignments in Revit and produce structural engineering documents.
• Compile data and prepare design solutions.
• Assist in editing technical specifications.
• Participate in design meetings.
• Receive mentorship from experienced engineers.
• Visit construction site(s) and/or completed project sites.

An ideal candidate has:

• Completed at least their sophomore year or have graduate standing in an accredited structural, architectural, or civil engineering program with an emphasis on structural engineering by the time of the internship.
• Relevant course work in structural engineering.
• Some experience with Revit and the Microsoft Office Suite.

SmithGroup promotes a healthy work/life balance for our staff, as well as hybrid work options that give interns the flexibility to work within our vibrant office culture or remotely, as needed. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $24.00 to $25.00 per hour, at the time of posting. You are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week.
