Job summary

SmithGroup in Chicago invites applications for a Civil Engineering Intern to join our team. You will collaborate on integrated design projects alongside landscape architecture, urban planning, and surveying professionals.

You will develop site design drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, perform preliminary calculations, and compile data to propose design solutions. Ideal candidates are sophomores or graduate students in accredited civil engineering programs and have some experience with AutoCAD,

Qualifications

• Sophomore standing or graduate status in an accredited civil engineering program by internship time.
• Some experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, ArcGIS and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Work on integrated design teams with landscape architecture, urban planning, and surveying.
• Develop site design drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Perform preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Compile data and prepare design solutions.
• Assist in editing technical specifications.
• Participate in design meetings.
• Receive mentorship from experienced engineers.
• Visit construction sites and completed project sites.

Working with us, you will:

• Work on integrated design teams with landscape architecture, urban planning, and surveying.
• Develop site design drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Perform preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Compile data and prepare design solutions.

An ideal candidate has:

• Completed at least their sophomore year or have graduate standing in an accredited civil engineering program by the time of the internship.
• Some experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, ArcGIS and the Microsoft Office Suite.

SmithGroup promotes a healthy work/life balance for our staff, as well as hybrid work options that give interns the flexibility to work within our vibrant office culture or remotely, as needed. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $24.00 to $25.00per hour, at the time of posting. You are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week. Our 12-week summer internships are held between May-August.
