Job summary

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineering Group Manager to lead the Columbus, OH office. You will direct design and execution of site development and land development projects across the Midwest, while guiding project teams, delegating work, and ensuring high‑quality results.

You will mentor engineers, manage budgets and schedules, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects efficiently. A relocation package is available for non‑local candidates.

Qualifications

• Lead and oversee the office’s civil engineering team, supporting land development, site development, and commercial site design projects.
• Manage day-to-day team operations, project execution, workload distribution, and staff performance to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Mentor and develop civil engineers and designers, providing technical guidance, career development, and opportunities for professional growth.
• Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of private development projects, including site layout, grading, utilities, stormwater management, and SWPPP plans.
• Review and approve construction documents, including engineering plan sets, specifications, cost estimates, and bid packages, ensuring technical accuracy and quality.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple design teams in daily operations
• Develop staffing needs, distribute work to teams to level workload
• Work with team leaders/project managers to monitor overall health of projects (scope, schedule, budget, etc.)
• Monitor group workload, utilization, billable hours
• Ensure client relationships are strong and healthy
• Work with Civil Service Line leaders to identify additional staffing needs (i.e. training, personnel)
• Mentor staff while executing office and company growth plan
• Proposal / contract preparation and project management
• Successfully manage and deliver work tasks on time
• Coordinate with fellow MSG staff across a variety of professional services that MSG provides including Surveying, Environmental, Geotechnical, Structural, Traffic, Transportation, Landscape Architecture, Funding Strategies/Grant Writing, and Construction Administration, etc.
