Job summary

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is seeking a Civil Engineering Group Manager to lead the civil engineering team in Detroit/Cleveland area. The role focuses on site and land development projects across the Midwest, with hands-on design involvement and team leadership.

The candidate will manage project execution, mentor engineers, and coordinate with clients and regulators to ensure high-quality outcomes. A PE license and 8+ years of experience are preferred, with relocation support available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• PE license in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania or Indiana required.
• 8+ years of experience in civil engineering, including leadership or supervisory role.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D required.
• Proven experience in independent preparation of stormwater management reports and designs.
• Solid understanding of design and plan preparation for site development projects.
• Experience with roadway design and survey coordination is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to guide junior staff and engage effectively with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the office’s civil engineering team, supporting land development, site development, and commercial site design projects.
• Manage day-to-day team operations, project execution, workload distribution, and staff performance to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Mentor and develop civil engineers and designers, providing technical guidance, career development, and opportunities for professional growth.
• Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of private development projects, including site layout, grading, utilities, stormwater management, and SWPPP plans.
• Review and approve construction documents, including engineering plan sets, specifications, cost estimates, and bid packages, ensuring technical accuracy and quality.
• Oversee feasibility studies, due diligence reports, zoning analyses, stormwater modeling and design, and detailed engineering plans.
• Provide technical leadership and quality control for civil design calculations, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to support project approvals, client satisfaction, and long-term business growth.
• Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate resources, resolve technical challenges, and maintain project schedules and budgets.
• Support business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities, developing client relationships, and contributing to proposals and project pursuits.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across the office.
