Job summary

Veit invites applications for a Civil Construction Intern in Bismark, ND, to explore a Project Manager/Estimator career track. The internship offers hands-on exposure to plan/spec review, site visits, takeoffs, bid preparation, and vendor quotes, with mentoring from a Project Manager/Estimator.

The program requires at least one year of progress toward a bachelor’s degree in construction-related fields and prefers one summer of construction work.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-year education toward a bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field.
• At least 1 summer of construction work experience is preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic software tools.

Responsibilities

• Reviews plans and specifications to determine the scope of work for the project.
• Reviews jobsites before bidding to make appropriate estimates.
• Completes takeoffs utilizing software; performs hand takeoffs for quantities.
• Calculates quantities (area/volume) for materials and movement.
• Solicits quotes from subcontractors for bid preparation and final numbers.
• Constructs bids with activities, crews, and equipment; reviews with estimator/PM.
• Observes the change order process and attends project meetings.
