Job summary

Cengage Group, a global education technology company, seeks a VP of Design and User Experience to shape the vision and creative direction for learners, educators and institutions. You will build a world-class UX organization, mentor teams, and advance equity through accessible, AI-enhanced experiences across our platforms.

You will collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Learning Science to drive measurable learning outcomes and to unlock potential through outstanding learning experiences.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in UX design, leading UX, product design, and experience design.
• 8+ years managing senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience leading large-scale digital transformation initiatives.
• Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders and link investments to business outcomes.
• Bachelor's or equivalent in Design, HCI, Learning Sciences, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Expertise in UX design, craft, and research methodologies.
• Strong understanding of learning principles and impact on outcomes.
• Familiar with AI-powered UX tools, personalization technologies, and automation.
• Experience working within a Product Operating Model.
• Excellent communication and storytelling; able to lead diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and articulate a compelling design vision rooted in design thinking.
• Empower teams to pursue innovative approaches in education technology.
• Build and mentor a high-performing UX team.
• Establish design standards and conduct executive reviews.
• Integrate UX into product development within the Product Operating Model.
• Develop scalable build systems and governance with AI-assisted prototyping and accessibility checks.
