Job summary

Cengage is seeking a UX Design Director in the United States to lead a multidisciplinary design team and shape the future of educational technology. You will set design strategy, mentor designers, and advance UX standards across products.

You will collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure user-centered, data-driven decisions and stay ahead of trends and AI to deliver modern, high-quality experiences.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a senior UX design leadership role.
• 3+ years of people management leading design teams of 10+.
• Deep expertise in UX and UI design principles and human-centered design.
• Outstanding collaboration and communication skills.
• Portfolio required to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of designers to shape design strategy and craft.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing to define focus areas and embed UX principles.
• Drive intuitive, modern experiences and scalable design patterns from concepts to polished solutions.
• Set and evolve UX standards and guidelines across products.
• Use data, research, and insights to identify opportunities and drive product improvements.
• Stay ahead of design trends and AI capabilities to advance the practice.
• Use design as a competitive advantage to differentiate products.
• Develop outstanding talent through coaching and mentoring.
