Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. seeks a Surgical Technician – Certified to join our operating room team in Roswell, NM. The role collaborates with surgeons and nurses to maintain a safe, efficient environment, ensuring sterile fields and proper instrument handling throughout procedures.

The technician assists with patient positioning, draping, instrument passing, counts, and room setup while supporting infection control and quality standards daily.

Qualifications

• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program required.
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences required.
• 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room by ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are ready.
• Maintains a sterile field throughout procedures and follows aseptic techniques.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments and supplies efficiently.
• Inspects, cleans, and sterilizes instruments per policy.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction.
• Maintains physician preference cards and procedural documentation.
• Restocks supplies and cleans/returns equipment for subsequent cases.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
