Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a Surgical Technician – Certified to collaborate with the surgical team in the operating room.

You will prepare and maintain a sterile field, anticipate needs, and ensure proper handling of instruments and supplies. You will support OR efficiency through equipment readiness, inventory management, sponge/needle/instrument counts, patient positioning, and adherence to infection control.

Qualifications

• Experience with sterile technique and infection control standards.
• Ability to anticipate team needs and respond quickly.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room and ensures instruments, equipment, and supplies are ready.
• Maintains sterile field and applies universal precautions.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments accurately during procedures.
• Handles instruments per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments with circulating nurse.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer as directed by RN.
• Maintains documentation and physician preference cards.
• Restocks supplies and cleans returns equipment post-case.
• Performs other duties and maintains attendance and policy compliance.
