Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform specimen collection, processing and accessioning with a focus on patient comfort and safety. You will communicate with laboratory customers and ensure accurate record keeping while maintaining a safe and compliant workflow.

Responsibilities include operating laboratory instruments, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting staffing needs across locations as required.

Qualifications

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
• Knowledge of hospital isolation, infection control, patient comfort/safety, and medical terminology.
• Understanding of laboratory regulations, laws and ethical requirements.
• Ability to perform basic collection and specimen preparation, storage and disposal.

Responsibilities

• Process and accession specimens and perform phlebotomy including heel and finger sticks.
• Operate and perform preventative maintenance on instruments as assigned.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and document records accurately.
• Communicate effectively with laboratory customers and resolve issues.
• Travel to additional locations as needed to support staffing and operations.
