Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill, NC seeks a certified Medical Assistant II to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic. You will work under clinical supervision and help the care team with patient intake, procedures, phlebotomy, medication administration, and education.

Responsibilities include maintaining exam rooms, assisting with tests, documenting in EMR, and handling referrals and scheduling.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and providers.
• Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
• Able to perform the essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake, collecting vital signs and reason for visit.
• Collects patient and family data, including medical/social history.
• Reviews current medications, allergies and preferred pharmacy.
• Assists provider during treatments, examinations and procedures.
• Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
• Administers medications under provider direction.
• Performs tests such as EKG and eye exams under provider direction.
• Reviews records to determine need for routine health screenings.
• Ensures exam rooms have supplies and are ready for visits.
• Provides after-visit instructions and educational materials.
• Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam/treatment rooms.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
• Assists with patient registration, check-in/out, scheduling, tests, treatments, and referrals.
• Answers clinic calls and assists in-basket under supervision.
• Assists in emergencies as directed by provider or nurse.
• Precepts new hires and externs; trains others in clinic procedures; manages clinic supply ordering.
