Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is hiring a road maintenance worker to perform vegetation management, operate equipment, and support drainage and bridge maintenance across the state highway system. Six months of related work experience or an acceptable equivalence is required.

A valid driver's license is required and a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of placement. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in various weather conditions, and may be scheduled for

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
Willingness to work extended hours or 12-hour shifts, including day or night.
Knowledge of traffic control and road safety practices.

Responsibilities

Operate equipment for vegetation management and road/bridge maintenance.
Assist in installing and repairing drainage structures and pipes.
Set up traffic control in work zones per guidance and safety standards.
Pick up litter, debris, and dead animals; support emergency operations as needed.
May work extended hours or 12-hour shifts, including day or night, in varying weather conditions.
