Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to perform vegetation and road/bridge repair tasks. You will operate a tractor with a mower and other equipment, assist with drainage work, and help set up work zones following SCDOT guidelines.

The role requires a valid driver's license and six months of related work experience; a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months. Availability for extended hours and work in various weather conditions is expected.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate a combination tractor with side-mounted mower and other medium-duty equipment for road and bridge maintenance.
• Assist with installing and repairing catch basins and drainage structures, including placing drainage pipes.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to set up work zones according to SCDOT guidelines.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts, day or night.
