Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform skilled manual labor and operate small equipment in road and bridge upkeep across the state highway system. You will work with a crew of maintenance staff, assist with traffic control devices, and conduct pre-trip inspections while meeting safety guidelines and responding to emergencies and inclement weather.

This position requires a valid driver’s license now, with Class A CDL due within six months, and

Qualifications

No minimum training or experience requirements are stated; CDL must be obtained within six months.
Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at hire.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Work may occur outdoors in all weather and after-hours emergencies.

Responsibilities

Perform skilled manual labor and operate small equipment for road and bridge maintenance.
Assist with placement of traffic control devices and act as a flagger in work zones.
Conduct pre-trip inspections of equipment and keep records per DOT rules.
Execute maintenance tasks such as drainage, vegetation, patching, and paving as assigned.
Work with a crew and follow safety policies during inclement weather.
