Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled Equipment Operator to support roadside and right-of-way maintenance. You will operate tandem and single axle dump trucks, tractors with mowers, and other heavy equipment, ensuring safe operation and routine maintenance.

You will be responsible for clearing vegetation, removing debris, and assisting in weather-related operations. A valid license is required at entry, with CDL Class A to be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• May require extended hours or 12-hour shifts during inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain equipment (dump trucks, tractors, mowers, etc.) for roadside and right-of-way maintenance.
• Perform safety inspections and routine maintenance on equipment.
• Assist in directing mowing and right-of-way clearing operations.
• Respond to emergency or inclement weather operations as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
