Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a CDL–A driver to operate tractor-trailer units and perform dock duties in Maryland. You will conduct safety inspections, hook/unhook trailers, and handle freight with powered equipment.

The role includes communicating with Dispatch, ensuring hazmat compliance, and providing strong customer service while supporting freight pickup and delivery needs. Competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Class A CDL or a commercial learner permit (CLP) before entering the job classification.
• Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under FMC regulations 391.
• Basic math skills and basic written/verbal communication.
• Ability to hook up/break down trailer sets that require lifting around 100 pounds several times a day.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 pounds several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight in trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Complete required documentation/reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related records.
• Follow hazmat regulations and placarding where required.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Interact with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs.
• Suggest additional business and provide leads to sales.
