Job summary

FedEx Freight in Utah seeks a driver/dock associate to operate tractor-trailers and support dock duties. You will perform pre-trip inspections, hook/unhook trailers, handle freight with equipment, and assist with freight security and documentation.

Candidates must hold a CDL, maintain a clean MVR, meet DOT regulations, and be able to lift up to 100 pounds. The role requires basic math, good communication, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in varying shifts.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time and work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments.
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events (delays, arrivals, equipment issues).
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• Where necessary, perform job duties of a road driver or freight handler.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Comply with all laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
