Job summary

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring lifting.
• Ability to lift/carry freight up to 100 pounds several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip/post-trip/inter-trip inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using motorized/manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when needed.
• Complete required documentation/reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain records.
• Follow hazmat regs and placarding per DOT rules.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, or problems.
• Provide internal/external customer service and gather new business leads.
• May perform road driver or freight handler duties as needed.
• Chain tires when required.
• Follow all laws and company policies.
