Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a CDL driver/dock worker to operate tractor-trailers, including doubles and straight trucks, and to perform comprehensive safety inspections.

The role involves forklift operation, freight handling, load securing, and maintaining accurate documentation on shipments. You will interact with Dispatch to coordinate pickups and deliveries, provide customer service, and identify opportunities for additional business.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must have acceptable MVR according to hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR part 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds several times a day.
• Ability to sit, bend, and climb in and out of trucks.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete training.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Refer potential new business to sales when appropriate.
• Where operationally necessary, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations and company policies.
