Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a trained driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations and perform non-driving duties like forklift operations.

The role includes rigorous safety inspections, freight handling, and close coordination with Dispatch to manage delays and equipment issues. Responsibilities include securing freight, completing documentation, and assisting with customer service on pickups and deliveries.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and breakdown trailers; lift requirements around 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with forklift, pallet jack, or hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related records.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
• Provide internal and external customer service; determine pickup/delivery needs.
• Suggest additional business to sales; provide leads.
