Job summary

FedEx Freight in Bethpage, NY is seeking a CDL driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, while performing dock duties when required.

Responsibilities include pre/post-trip inspections, logging, documentation, and following Dispatch instructions. You may also handle freight with forklift and pallet jack, and work overnight on certain schedules.

Qualifications

• Must have a Class A CDL or valid CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must have an acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT/FMCSA regulatory requirements under 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down trailers with lift about 100 lbs.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and move as required.
• Work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor/trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions on delays or equipment issues.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Provide internal and external customer service.
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck when needed.
• Overnight stays may be required for some schedules.
