Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. seeks CDL-capable drivers to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles. You will perform pre/post-inspections, hook/unhook trailers, and manage freight handling with forklifts and pallet jacks while ensuring safety and compliance.

The role demands good math, clear communication, and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds. You may work day or night shifts and engage with customers for pick-up/delivery needs.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 pounds, several times a week.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and dollies.
• Handle freight with forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related records.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
• Deliver customer service at the pickup and delivery points.
• Offer new business leads to sales as appropriate.
• Assist with road driver or freight handler duties when needed.
