Job summary

FedEx Freight in New Jersey is seeking a CDL-class driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles or straight trucks. You will perform pre-trip inspections, maintain logs, handle hazardous materials compliance, and deliver customer service while supporting dock and forklift duties as needed.

The role requires CDL, clean MVR, and the ability to lift heavy loads, with overnight stays possible.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under FMC regulations 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and breakdown trailers with lifting requirements ~100 pounds.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and work in varying conditions.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from tractors or trailers.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment problems.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Occasionally perform city driver or freight handler duties.
• Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, or hand truck as needed.
• Chain vehicle tires when required and follow all safety procedures.
