Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. in Bethpage, NY seeks a tractor-trailer operator with CDL or CLP to perform driving and dock duties. You will conduct inspections, hook/unhook trailers, move freight with equipment, and ensure proper freight security per DOT regulations.

You will collaborate with dispatch, provide customer service, and may assist sales by identifying additional business opportunities. Physical requirements include lifting up to 100 pounds and frequent climbing in/out of trucks.

Qualifications

• Must have a class A CDL or CLP before entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under FMC 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and handle freight.
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, and climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre/post/inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Move freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight in trailers with pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight and maintain related docs.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding.
• Communicate dispatch status and follow directions.
• Demonstrate internal/external customer service.
• Assess customer pickup/delivery needs; solicit new business.
• Occasionally perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain tires and comply with laws and company policies.
