Job summary

FedEx Freight in New York seeks a driver to operate a tractor-trailer, including doubles and straight trucks, and to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections along with dock work.

You will hook/unhook trailers, use forklifts and pallet jacks, secure freight, and follow Dispatch instructions to handle delays, arrivals, and equipment issues while delivering safe, on-time service. CDL or CLP and a clean MVR are required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Perform freight handling using forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment issues
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs
• Assist with road driver or freight handler duties as needed
• Chain vehicle tires as required
• Follow laws/regulations and company policies
• Perform other duties as required
