Job summary

160 Driving Academy is the nation's largest CDL training school with 90+ yards across 32 states. As a CDL Class A Instructor Trainer, you teach students from pre-trip inspection to CDL exam day, in yard and on-road settings, at a designated yard with a team of instructors.

You will also cover at other regional yards when needed, maintain training records, and help keep the yard clean. A strong background in Class A driving and mentoring is essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduation certificate or equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL with a minimum of 24 months of verifiable Class A tractor-trailer driving experience.
• The state where you obtained your driver’s license must be the same state where you are applying to work.
• Manual transmission experience and ability to teach.
• MVR free of violations and able to pass DOT physical/screening.
• Background check clearance and strong communication skills.
• Basic computer skills for tracking student progress and scheduling.
• Residence in the applying state or relocation plans.
• Must meet local instructor licensing requirements.
• 90-day probationary period at hire.

Responsibilities

• Teach Class A driving skills using hands-on training in outdoor yards on automatic and manual transmissions.
• Guide students step-by-step through pre-trip inspections, yard maneuvers, and on-road driving.
• Prepare students to pass CDL testing standards on the first attempt.
• Track student attendance and progress; provide additional support when needed.
• Maintain accurate training records, evaluations, and documentation.
• Report all incidents and accidents to lead and corporate promptly.
• Work closely with fellow instructors and Lead Instructor to deliver a consistent student experience.
• Help keep the yard and building clean and presentable.
• Cover for other instructors at nearby regional yards in emergencies.
• 90-day probationary period adherence to safety, compliance and curriculum.
