Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is hiring a CDL driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers in the Lexington area.

The role requires safe operation of tractor-trailers (including doubles/triples where allowed), pre-trip inspections, and adherence to DOT regulations. The position emphasizes strong customer service, documentation accuracy, and the ability to generate additional business leads for sales while following dispatch instructions.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Class A CDL with double/triple endorsements; hazmat and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• One year experience within the past three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must have acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT FMCSA regulations under 49 CFR 391.
• Long combination vehicle (LCV) qualifications apply in listed states.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Good written and verbal communication; able to follow instructions.
• Able to lift up to 100 pounds and work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/triples where allowed, or straight trucks.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and dollies to/from tractors.
• Handle freight with equipment like forklifts or pallet jacks.
• Secure freight with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup or repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and procedures.
• Collect freight charges when required and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch directions and report delays or equipment issues.
• Communicate with customers to determine pickup/delivery needs and seek additional business.
• Provide strong internal and external customer service.
• Refer additional business opportunities to sales.
• May perform tire chaining or duties of road/dock staff as needed.
• Adhere to laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
