Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking qualified drivers to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers. The role includes pre-trip inspections, securing freight, and compliant handling of hazardous materials.

You will communicate with dispatch and customers, and help identify additional business opportunities. The position requires a Class A CDL with hazmat and tank endorsements, plus relevant driving experience or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.

Qualifications

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements; automatic transmission allowed.
• 1 year driving experience in the last 3 years or completion of the Driver Development Course.
• Acceptable MVR according to hiring standards.
• DOT FMC regulatory compliance knowledge.
• LCV knowledge for states listed (AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, UT).
• Ability to perform basic math and maintain accurate documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles/triples where applicable.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections of equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies as needed.
• Handle freight using appropriate equipment like forklift or pallet jack.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect payments for freight charges and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or issues.
• Interact with customers to determine pickup/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
• Offer leads to sales for potential new opportunities.
