Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is hiring a Patient Care Technician for Cardiac Acute Care on the Night shift, 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week). Under the direction of an RN, the PCT provides basic nursing care and support on the unit.

The role requires a HS diploma or GED, BLS/CPR, and either CENA certification or enrollment in a health science program. Prior acute care experience is preferred.

Weekend shifts are required; flexibility for nights and on-call duties is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CENA certification or enrollment in health science program with nursing fundamentals preferred.
• Equivalent healthcare experience considered (MA, EMT, Nurse Tech, etc.).
• Basic understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and patient confidentiality preferred.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.
• Experience in acute or extended care facilities preferred.
• Able to complete unit-specific core competencies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living and patient comfort, beds, transfers, and ROM.
• Assist with hygiene activities.
• Provide catheter care, wound dressings, ostomy care.
• Assist with postmortem care.
• Assist with nutrition, passing trays, feeding, and intake recording.
• Assist with elimination needs and drainage management.
• Collect specimens and perform basic urine testing and glucose checks.
• Measure and record vital signs and weight.
• Operate and set up equipment safely.
• Infection control and standard precautions.
• Document care as directed by the RN.
• Communicate using unit systems; report to RN; maintain confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned by RN.
