Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to provide basic nursing care under the direction of an RN. The role supports the unit with essential patient care tasks and routines.

The position is daytime hours, 0.3 FTE, with weekends and no on-call. Required are a High School Diploma or GED, BLS/CPR, and potential preferred qualifications in health science programs or equivalent healthcare experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must meet one of the following: CENA certification, or enrollment in a health science program with nursing fundamentals or clinical rotation, or equivalent health science program.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider required.
• Experience in acute care or extended care facility preferred.
• Able to complete unit-specific core competencies as defined in orientation.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and comfort.
• Assist with patient hygiene.
• Provide catheter care (excluding insertion/removal) and dressings.
• Assist with postmortem care.
• Aid nutrition by passing trays, feeding, and recording intake.
