Job summary

Vassar College is seeking an Assistant Store Manager for the Poughkeepsie campus store to assist the Director with daily store operations, staffing, and merchandising. You will help plan, organize, and monitor sales floor activities, shipping/receiving, and textbook purchasing and buyback processes.

The role requires strong supervisory experience, excellent customer service, and the ability to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising staff or equivalent responsibilities.
• Understanding of retail operations, cash handling and customer relations.
• Knowledge of merchandising, inventory control and physical counts.
• Excellent customer service and written/spoken communication.
• Ability to work varied hours, including nights and weekends.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee opening and closing procedures.
• Direct staff and prioritize tasks per customer needs.
• Design merchandising setups and oversee purchasing decisions.
• Help achieve budget goals via cost-saving and revenue programs.
• Hire, train, and schedule student employees.
• Manage textbook cycle from adoptions to buyback.
• Communicate within store and with campus community.
• Support marketing programs to boost store sales.
• Oversee store in the director's absence.
• Coordinate pop-up events with Campus Community.
• Oversee social media communications.
