Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to help lead the campus store by partnering with the Store Manager to deliver an exceptional retail experience. You will develop teams, drive operational excellence, and support the success of the store within a dynamic campus community.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of retail experience with at least 1 year in leadership or supervisory roles.
• Experience with retail operations including merchandising, inventory, and customer service.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
• Strong customer service, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with retail technology, POS systems, and MS Office applications.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily sales floor operations, coach team, and uphold a customer-first culture.
• Partner with Store Manager to oversee operations, serve as Manager-on-Duty, and ensure standards and store presentation.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and develop team members with ongoing feedback.
• Drive sales and operations by analyzing trends and managing controllable expenses.
• Build relationships with customers, campus partners, and team members; resolve concerns professionally.
• Develop expertise across store departments and provide leadership in assigned areas.
• Support merchandising, inventory, stock replenishment, and order fulfillment to keep a tidy, ready environment.
• Champion a clean, safe, and organized store across all departments.
