Job summary

Vassar College Store is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support the Director in supervising day-to-day operations, merchandising, inventory control and textbook cycle management. The role includes hiring and training student staff, implementing cost-saving and revenue-generating ideas, and coordinating campus communications.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising a team in a retail or campus bookstore setting.
• Strong knowledge of retail operations, cash handling and customer relations.
• Merchandising, inventory control and basic accounting concepts.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work varied hours including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Oversee opening and closing procedures of the store.
• Direct staff and re-prioritize tasks to meet customer needs.
• Design merchandising layouts and oversee purchasing decisions.
• Assist in meeting budget goals through cost savings and revenue ideas.
• Hire, train and schedule student employees.
• Coordinate textbook cycle from adoptions to buyback and sales.
• Develop marketing programs to promote the store on campus.
