Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking a Maintenance Assistant for Campus Residences. The role requires the ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks, use hand and power tools, and operate campus vehicles as needed.

The successful candidate will join a full-time team, comply with safety protocols, and maintain equipment and facilities across residence halls. A valid NYS driver’s license and the ability to lift and work from heights are essential.

Qualifications

Two years of full-time maintenance or mechanical work experience or completion of a two-year technical school course.
Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License with clean driving record.
Physical ability to bend, lift, stretch and climb and to work in confined spaces or from ladders/scaffolds.
Completion of NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program consists of 288 hours classroom, 45 hours math, 45 hours communications, 15 hours blueprint reading.

Responsibilities

Perform semi-skilled maintenance like repairing doors, windows, stairs, railings, furniture and hardware.
Operate hand/power tools and shop machinery to build/repair items.
Operate a fleet of State vehicles for Residential Mailroom parcel transport and transfers.
Follow safety guidelines and wear proper safety equipment.
Perform routine maintenance of appliances and laundry equipment and install/repair piping as needed.
Inspect electrical systems and troubleshoot outlets for proper voltage and grounding.
