Job summary

St. Andrew’s School in Town of Middletown, NY is seeking a general maintenance mechanic to join the Facilities Department, performing preventative maintenance and repairs across campus structures, systems, and equipment.

Under supervision, you will handle plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and restoration tasks, operate campus heavy equipment, and help keep the school safe and well-maintained for students and staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as work requests, instructions, drawings, schematics, and procedures.
• Basic computer and typing skills are required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and emergency maintenance and repairs throughout the campus facilities.
• Interprets, prioritizes, and completes work orders as assigned.
• Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects and is responsible for the safekeeping of these tools and equipment.
• Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects and correcting problems as needed.
• Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
• Performs routine repairs and preventative maintenance to campus electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
• Follows safe working practices at all times and requests additional personnel or equipment when a task requires it.
• Plans repair work using buildings blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
• Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician.
• Assists with upkeep of campus grounds, athletic fields, housekeeping, and set-ups/teardowns.
• May load trucks and feed bins with various aggregate material; may move earth or other material; may perform paving/grading work.
• Ensures safety, compliance, and environmental requirements are followed at all times.
• Communicates effectively with the school community and outside vendors.
• Works with department supervisors to address concerns and priorities.
• Contributes positively to team morale.
