Job summary

The Yay Company (Waldron Mercy Academy) is seeking a Kitchen & Service Assistant to keep the kitchen running, assist the Lead Cook, and help with grab‑and‑go service. The role may include packing food for delivery to spoke schools and driving deliveries where needed.

You will be on a fast-paced team, ensuring accurate labeling, proper staging, and timely distribution while engaging with students in a warm, welcoming manner.

Qualifications

• Experience in a kitchen, café, or food service environment with ability to move with urgency and purpose.
• Strong attention to labeling, staging, and portioning accuracy.
• People-first mindset with welcoming service to students.
• Reliable and self-directed; proactively handle tasks without prompting.
• Team player who supports colleagues and takes ownership of their station.
• If delivery is part of role, safe and reliable transportation with valid driver’s license.
• Food handler's certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Handle mise en place for the Lead Cook — washing, chopping, weighing, and portioning ingredients.
• Label and stage items for distribution with date, quantity, and use‑by date.
• Pack and deliver spoke school orders per route schedule; maintain temperatures.
• Distribute pre‑order lunches and manage grab‑and‑go checkout.
• Stock and stock rotation for grab‑and‑go fridge and shelves; ensure prices are visible.
• Clean as you go and participate in end‑of‑shift breakdown.
